I was left alone, leaning against the wall, waiting for everyone to be ready. Nesrin came out of the house approaching me holding a wooden cup. She shoved the cup towards me, it was filled with wine. Most of it spilled over my hand as I reached to take it.

“Mama told me if you were refusing to come in to bring wine to you.” The small woman eyed me as she stepped closer to me. “I don’t know why you’re here exactly or what’s happening, but I just wanted to tell you this. Aideen may be the strongest out of all of us, but she’s the most vulnerable, she always has been. Take this as a warning, reaper. I don’t care who you are or how powerful you are. You try to get close to her again or even think about hurting her, you will have more to worry about than skinwalkers and the Trials. I will take you down and leave your precious Orach Elite-less.” Nesrin turned and stormed off. I stood, shocked. I would have maybe expected that from Zahra, even Rosa, but not Nesrin. “No, Boss. I’m sorry but I can’t wait to go home.” He turned and ran into the house so he wouldn’t have to face my wrath at disobeying my order.

I’d had enough of sitting on the front wall now, so I made my way down the side of the cottage. Noticing a small window, I peered in, seeing Rosa Bossing everyone around to get themselves ready. I carried on the small pathway until I came out into a bright garden. I walked down further towards a bush filled with blood-red roses. The roses of Clavine. I stopped to smell one, the fragrance danced around me. I heard footsteps behind, knowing it would be a reaper.

“I’ll be there shortly.” I snapped. I wasn’t ready to leave this small bit of paradise yet, I just needed one more moment.

“I’m sorry.” The small, a song-like voice came from behind. It was Aideen. I spun, immediately regretting how I had responded before she had even spoken.

“No, it’s ok. I was just admiring the roses. It’s not every day one sees a Clavine rose bush blooming. I imagine they will be dead soon?” I attempted a smile and failed miserably, turning back to the roses. I wished I had not opened my mouth at all. What was it about
